* If one cop in Kolkata and one in Bangalore is terminated of his duties for throwing the Indian national flag on ground, by mistake.

Then why double standards:

* During the ongoing Amarnath Sangarsh, Jammuites holding the Indian National Flag and chanting 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' are open fired by the J&K Police on orders from the Police Commissioner(belongs to kashmir). Peaceful protesters are killed..
* Like in case of Amarnath case, people in Kashmir
when want to get some demand fulfilled, protest by burning Indian national Flag, hosting Pakistani Flag and chanting 'Hindustan Murdabad, Pakistan Jindabad'. But no body condemns. Infact, all such protest are followed by a team of union ministers visiting Kashmir and immediately sanctioning a few thousand crore rupees for Kashmiris.
* Every year on 14th Aug (Pakistani Indipendence Day), Pakistani flag is hosted every where in Kashmir, including the govt. buildings and on 15th Aug, same people burn the Indian flag.

Kottarakkara (IAST: Koṭṭārakkara) is a town located in Kollam District (formerly known as Quilon), in Kerala state, India. It is 72 km to the north of the State Capital,Thiruvananthapuram, on the Main Central Road and 78 km to the south of Kottayam. The town lies 25 km to the east of the District headquarters city of Kollam and 15 km to the west of Punalur on National Highway 208/220.

For many centuries, the city served as a place of residence for kings, hence the name "Kottarakara", which means "the land of the palaces". (Kottaram means palace and Karameans land) The "Elayidath Swaroopam", a branch of the Travancore Royal family, was the last ruling family of the area. The last queen of the dynasty was defeated by KingMarthanda Varma (a distant cousin of hers), in the 18th century and she fled to Cochin to seekt asylum with her allies, the Dutch. They pensioned her with 2 rupees and 5 annas. Later, during Tipu Sultan's invasion of Malabar, a Royal family from North Malabar was settled in Kottarakara by Dharma Raja. This family line became extinct in the mid 19th century.

The region is primarily agrarian, although it has recently acquired many urban characteristics. In the past, commercial activities were centered around two junctions - the Pulamon Junction and the Market Junction. The entire stretch between the two Junctions and the surrounding areas have now developed into active commercial hubs. The town has grown in population as well. The Kottarakara Taluk has a population of 5.77 lakhs as per the 2001 census.

There are many educational institutions, including St.Gregorius College affiliated to the Kerala University and the "Engineering College", which is run by the IHRD (a State Government organisation) and is affiliated with the [[Cochin University of Science and Technology] and Divine Public School, Puthoor,(Senior Secondary School) affiliated to the CBSE, Delhi. The Kollam - Chennai railway passes through Kottarakara and there is a railway station.The railway line is being converted intobroad gauge under project Unigauge.

Kottarakara, like most areas in India, is in the jurisdictions of several different levels of government, such as the three tiers of Panchayat raj (Village, Block and District), and, of course, the state and central governments. The Kottarakara Block consists of Kottarakara Village Panchayat and five other Panchayats. Revenue and land administration have the village as the basic unit. The KottarakaraTaluk consists of 27 villages. The Taluk is part of the Kollam Revenue Sub-Division, which is conterminous with the Kollam District.

The State Institute of Rural Development, which trains the senior officers of the Rural Development Department, is in Kottarakara. One of the three Extension Training Centres in the State is also here. The ETC conducts training programmes for Village Extension Officers. There are also training programmes for self-employment in agriculture. Other important government institutions include the Irrigation Chief Engineer's (Kallada) Office, Electricity Superintending Engineer's Office, Transport Corporation's District Office, the District Treasury, the District Education Office, the Taluk office, Taluk supply office, Block Development Office and the Taluk hospital.

Kathakali

Kottarakkara Thampuran (the King of Kottarakkara in the sixteenth century) was the father of the classical art form of Kathakali. This form of dance drama (which was originally based on stories from the Ramayana and was called Ramanattam), was developed by him to complementKrishnanattam, which had its origin under the Zamorins of Kozhikode.

Malayalam novelists Lalithambika Antharjanam,Kakkanadan and writer & hypnotist Johnson Eyeroor were born here.

The late KP Kottarakkara- Kaippallil kuttan Pillai known as KP Kottarakkara was a film story writer, director, producer and actor. KP Kottarakkara played a serious part as a freedom fighter and was confined by the British government. Pasamalar written by him was the first Indian movie which was remade into eight different languages. He had written stories for around 87 movies including malayalam, telugu, kannada, tamil and had produced 59 movies in these languages.Celebrites like , Dilip Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Guru Dutt, MGRamachandran, NT Ramarao, Sivaji Ganeshan, Rajkumar,Akkineni Nageshwara rao, Kamal Haasan, Vijayakanth,Prabhu Ganesan, Waheeda Rehman, Rekha, Sathyan, Prem Nazir, Madhu (actor) etc had done excellent in his movies.

The late Oyur Kochu Govinda Pillai (1916-2008) was an artiste and a master performer of Kathakali.His character "Hamsam" (the bird character serving as messenger between lovers) very famous.He has taught in many of Kerala’s training centers for Kathakali and has to his credit many disciples who later became well known names in Kathakali. Besides sharing his expertise in Kathakali at home, Kochu Govinda Pillai also got an opportunity in 1966 to visit Singapore and train students there for six months. He also toured some of the European countries like the U.K., Holland and Germany to perform Kathakali, while he was a member of the Kathakali troupe of the FACT in 1970.In recognition of his acting prowess and as an outstanding personality in the world of Kathakali, Oyur Kochu Govinda Pillai has been honored on several occasions, and some of the noted ones include the Kerala Kalamandalam Award and the Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award.

The late Kottarakara Sreedharan Nair was one of India's best known actors. He portrayed many historical heroes such as Pazhassi Raja, Velu Thampi Dalawa and Kunhali Marakkar. He will also be remembered for his roles in Chemmeen and Ara Nazhika Neram. His son 'Saikumar' and daughter Sobha are Malayalam film actors. His grandson Vinumohan is also a film actor.

Veteran actor "Bharat" Murali (1954-2009), who was the Chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy, hails from Kudavettoor near Kottarakara.

R.Balakrishna Pillai, many times minster, MLA, MP and Panchayat President, and Chairman of the Kerala Congress (B) is synonymous with Kottarakara. K. B. Ganesh Kumar, MLA, former Minister and the son of R. Balakrishna Pillai, is also a renowned actor. Other MLAs hailing from Kottarakara are Aisha Potti, B.Raghavan and P.C. Vishnunath.

Senior civil servants from the place include K.Mohandas IAS, K.P.Somarajan IPS and K. Sukumaran Nair IPS (retired).

Kottarakkara is place of pilgrimage as the seat of the famous Ganapati Temple. It is believed that the idol was sculptured byPerumthachan from the root of the jack tree. This temple is famous for its Unniappom. The temple festival is the largest in Kottarakara. The Mahadeva temple is almost equally famous. The great temples in the vicinity include the Bhagavathy temples at Pattazhy, Poovattoor and Mannadi and the Mahadeva Temple at Vettikavala, Vadakkathil Sree Bhuvaneshwari Devi Kshethram(Policodu) and the Major Thrimurthi Temple at Thevalappuram, Puthoor.

There are also many churches in the area which is major center for the Malankara orthodox churches, marthoma churches and malankara catholics. The most important churches are Kizhakketheruvu orthodox valiyappalli, Kottapuram orthodox church nad marthoma valiyappalli. roots of the Pentecostal movement in Kerala are here. In hindu family Vazhappallil family is the traditional ancient family.

Kottarakara is also the home town of THE MEDAYIL FOUNDATION.

Kottarakkara also has a large number of Muslims with the main mosque at the Market Junction.

Punalur (Malayalam: പുനലൂര്‍ Punalūr‍) is a city and a municipality in Kollam district in the southern state of Kerala, India. It is situated 45 km north-east of Kollam and 75 km north of Thiruvananthapuram. Punalur is the head quarters of Pathanapuram taluk. Punalur Railway Station is located on the Kollam-Shencotta railway line. The nearest airport is at Thiruvananthapuram. The Main Eastern Highway (Punalur-Pathanamthitta-Muvattupuzha Road / SH - 08) and Kollam - Shengottai Road (NH-208) connects the town to other major towns.

Punalur has an average elevation of 56 metres (183 feet).^[1] The Kallada River passes through Punalur. Various scenic spots on Kallada River^[2] attracts many tourists to Punalur but the infrastructure development needs to be addressed. The Punalursuspension bridge crossing the river is the only suspended-deck type in south India. Built in 1877 by Albert Henry across the this huge bridge was suspended by three spans and was used for vehicular movement. Construction took more than six years. It is said that after completion of the bridge people hesitated to walk through the bridge. In order to prove the strength of the bridge the engineer and his family passed under the bridge in a country boat while six elephants were walking through the bridge. Now the bridge is only of archeological interest.^[3]^[4]

Regarding climate, even though located near western ghats, Punalur is the hottest place in Kerala and during summer temperature has recorded even 41 degree celsius.

Punalur lies 45 km from Kollam on the scenic Kollam-Shencotta railway line across the western ghats, providing a valuable link across the southern states. It is also linked with Kollam by road. The long-pending Shencottah-Punalur gauge conversion under Unigauge work has been sanctioned recently. Currently Kollam-Punalur gauge conversion is going on.Punalur-Schencotta line is still metre gauge.

The suspension bridge across the Kallada river erected in 1877, is the only one of its kind in south India and it is 400 ft long.

Main agricultural products of this township include rubber, black pepper, and other spices. The chief commodities of export here are the hill produces, pineapple, pepper products, plywood and timber. the Punalur Paper Mill Ltd., a paper Industry established in 1888 by a British Nationale was under the control and management of Mr. L.N. Dalmia till 1984. This prestigious organisation was closed due to labour disputes and improper handling of the situation by the mill management and the state government.

Some of the tourist spots near Punalur are Thenmala Ecotourism (21 km) and Palaruvi Water Falls (15 km). Punalur is on the western edge of Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve. There is a municipal stadium which is only an open ground. Pilgrims from Tamil Nadu going to Ayyappa temple at Pampa halt at Punalur, making it a busy place during festival seasons. Some of the famous nearby places arePathanapuram,Pathanamthitta, Kottarakara, Anchal, Kulathupuzha, Ampalamkunnu and Aryankavu. Other nearby towns are Pathanapuram, Kunnikodu and Edamon.

As of 2001 India census,^[5] Punalur had a population of 47,226. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Punalur has an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 85%, and female literacy is 82%. In Punalur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Oachira or Ochira (Malayalam: ഓച്ചിറ Ōcciṟa) is a small town in Kollam district inKerala, India. It is one of the famous sacred places of Kerala and in India.^[1] Oachira is on the border of Kollam and Allappuzha Districts, next to the National Highway 47.^[2] It is a very ancient pilgrimage center that is centered on the ParaBrahma Temple (that is dedicated to the Para Brahman (or Param Brahman) or OHMKARAM, the UniversalConsciousness), which covers thirty-six acres of land.

The major annual festivals are Oachira Kali or Oachirakali (held on the first and second of Midhunam, i.e., June-July) and the twelve-day Panthrandu Vilakku (twelve lamp festival), which is held in November/December. Oachira Kali is celebrated in commemoration of the battle of Kayamkulam, fought between Marthanda Varma, the Maharaja of Travancore and the Raja of Kayamkulam, on the plains of Oachira.^[3]. It is a mock fight enacted between groups of men dressed as warriors on the padanilam (battle field). They perform a martial dance standing in knee-deep water, brandishing swords and shields, and splashing water in every direction. A big cattle fair is also held as part of the festival.

Yet another festival celeberated in Oachira Temple is the "Irupathiyettam Onam" (Thiruvonum in the month of Kanni, second month of Malayalam Calendar). It is considered as the Onam of cows & bulls and is celebarated on Thiruvonam. These concepts are related to Shiva Vahana.

There is no sanctorum in Oachira Temple. The statues of the deities are placed below large banyan trees, the Prasadam is the holy mud from the Temple which has medicinal value.

Apart from settlements some parts are occupied by Forest departmental plantations mainly of teak, eucalyptus and acacia. The plantations are grown by planting sapplings on cleared natural forests. Plantations are raised to sustain and supplement the timber needs of a few industries in the State.

Anchal is a developing town in the east central part of Kollam district of Kerala, India.

Legend says that the town got its name from the following five famous arguments which existed in olden times.

Is agasthyakodu muni male or female?
Is Aerom chira kulam (pond) or chira?
Is Aerom temple situated on paddy field or land?
Is leaf of vomica tree in Vadamon sweet or bitter?
Is Kurumakattu Pillai (was a famous landlord in Anchal) is illam caste or swarupamcaste among the Nairs?

The history of Anchal says that it was the most popular commercial centre when it was part of the erstwhile Travancore. The new site of the town was forestland and the original Anchal village was a collection of several villages, namely Komalam,Choranadu,Thazhamel,Panayamcherry, Aerom, Vadamon,Agasthyakodu, Padighattinkara Nediyara and Kuruvikonam. These places were inhabited by Brahmins,Nairs and Ezhavas. In Panayamcherry there is a famous Ayappa temple built by Kottarakkara Thampuran. It is believed that it was the controlling centre of Anchal in old times.

In due course, most of the Brahmins vacated Anchal and sold their forestlands to people from other castes and Christian missionaries. After that many educational institutions came up in Anchal, established either by the government or by the missionaries. Now Anchal is the place in Kollam district which possesses highest number of educational institutions and co-related establishments.

The original five villages remain as the cultural centres of Anchal, away from the rush of the town.

Anchal has an ancient agricultural market, with a cattle market every Wednesday and Saturday. It is one of the fast developing towns in Kollam. New buildings, infrastructure,shopping malls etc. give Anchal a city's face.

Swami Vivekananda (Bengali: স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ, Shami Bibekānondo; Hindi: स्वामी विवेकानन्द,Svāmi Vivekānanda) (January 12, 1863–July 4, 1902), born Narendranath Dutta^[2] is the chief disciple of the 19th century mystic Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and the founder ofRamakrishna Mission.^[3] He is considered a key figure in the introduction of Vedanta andYoga in Europe and America^[3] and is also credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringingHinduism to the status of a world religion during the end of the 19th century.^[4] Vivekananda is considered to be a major force in the revival of Hinduism in modern India.^[5] He is best known for his inspiring speech beginning with "sisters and brothers of America",^[6]^[7] through which he introduced Hinduism at the Parliament of the World's Religions at Chicago in 1893.^[2]

Swami Vivekananda was born in an aristocratic Kayastha family of Calcutta in 1863. His parents influenced the Swami's thinking – the father by his rational mind and the mother by her religious temperament. From his childhood, he showed inclination towards spirituality andGod realization. While searching for a man who could directly demonstrate the reality of God, he came to Ramakrishna and became his disciple. As a guru, Ramakrishna taught himAdvaita Vedanta and that all religions are true, and service to man was the most effective worship of God. After the death of his Guru, Vivekananda became a wandering monk, touring the Indian subcontinent and getting a first-hand account of India's condition. He later sailed toChicago and represented India as a delegate in the 1893 Parliament of World Religions. An eloquent speaker, Vivekananda was invited to several forums in United States and spoke at universities and clubs. He conducted several public and private lectures, disseminatingVedanta, Yoga and Hinduism in America, England and a few other countries in Europe. He also established Vedanta societies in America and England. He later sailed back to India and in 1897 he founded the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, a philanthropic and spiritual organization. Pavitropana is a festival of Gujaratis. It is celebrated on the very same day of Rakhi Purnima and falls in the month of Shravana. According to the legends, Gujaratis are the staunch believers of religion and generally they worship lord Shiva. On this auspicious day, most of the people offer water to the Shivalingas in the nearby temples, offer prayers to Lord Shiva and seek his blessings. It is believed that whoever, prays on this auspicious day, all his past sins are forgiven.

History of Pavitropana

This festival has also been referred to as Putrada Ekadashi in Bhavishya Purana. In this Purana, Lord Krishna has narrated the story of how the Ekadashi in the month of Shravana came to be sacred. He states,“At the dawn of Dvarpara-yuga there lived a king by the name of Mahijita, who ruled the kingdom of Mahismati-puri. Since he had no son, his entire kingdom seemed utterly cheerless to him. “A married man who has no son gains no happiness in this life or the next.” The King tried hard to beget children and continue his lineage. But it seemed that lady luck had turned against the king. As years progressed, he became anxious and called for an assembly of advisors. He told that he had never committed any sin or did anything wrong to anyone. Yet the Gods have not blessed him and the kingdom with a son. He asked everyone to find out the reason for this.

Rituals followed on Pavitropana

The Ceremony of Pavitropana involves Pavitras, a few filaments of cotton and sometimes kasa grass which are closely entwined, knotted together and soaked in a mixture of Panchgaivya (cow's ghee, milk, curd, urine and excreta).

Pavitropana or the Shravana Purnima is considered as an auspicious day for the final poojan of the three eyed God. In the Pavitropana ceremony, a few twisted filaments of cotton are soaked in panchagaivya (mixture of cow's ghee, milk, curd, urine and excreta) and then fastened around the Shivalinga. Panchagaivya or the five products obtained from cow which is the most sacred animal according to the Hindu mythology.

Narial Purnima

This festival is important for those who depend on sea for their life.On this day the Sea God, Varun is worshiped.The coconuts are offered to the Sea God thus the name Narial purnima or the coconut full moon.

It is the time of retreating monsoon. The skies are clearing, the tides are receding, the sea is less violent. It is the festival time for the people of the coastal areas. The people offer coconut to Lord Varun to invoke blessings and offer thanks giving.

For the fishermen is is the beginning of the new fishing season. During the monsoon the seas are more violent. The fishermen don't wade into seas during this time. Shravan Purnima signifies the end of Monsoon. The Fishermen decorate their boats, paint it new and put flags. They then carry decorated coconuts to the sea. It is kind of a community gathering there. They celebrate together, sing and dance together. In the end they worship the Sea God and offer coconut. The decorated coconuts are thrown in the water with prayers of a plentiful fish catch.

Why Coconut?
A coconut has three eyes. It is said to represent Lord Shiva, the three eyed God. Coconut is considered to be an auspicious offering to Gods. A coconut is broken in front of the deities before taking up a new venture to seek blessings and on successful comlition for thanks giving. Coconut is important for all religious occasions. Thus coconut is considered to be an ideal offering to the Sea God as well.

Pieces of coconut and coconut are distributed as 'prasad'. Coconut rice is the main dish on this day.

Avani Avittam / Upakramam

Avani Avittam or Upakramam or Avani Attam is a ritual followed by the Brahmins who read Yajurveda. It is most commonly celebrated in southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerela, and states of Orissa and Maharashtra. It falls on the Shravan Purnima that is the same day as Raksha Bandhan.

Avani Avittam Rituals
On this day, a Mahasankalpam or a vow is taken for atonement of all our sins in the past year. The Brahmins take a holy dip and wear a new holy thread called Yajnopavit or Janeyu.

The first step is a 'prayashchita', A prayer to atone the sins. It says, "For the removal of all my sins and thereby to secure a divine blessing and for qualifing myself to perform the essential duties of Brahmanas as prescribed in the vedas and smritis and adopted by the really good in their conduct I put on this Yagnopavita".

When the thread is worn another mantra is recited which means -"I put on the sacred thread which is highly pure, is inseparable from God, is capable of prolonging life and is the foremost in the accomplishment of a Brahmana. May such pure Yagnopavita bring strength and dignity.

While removing the old thread, the mantra means -"I throw away the broken dirty old thread, may the new one bring on long life and Brahmana's brilliance.

Avani Avittam Significance
Upakramam means the beginning. On this day the Yajurvedis begin to read Yajur Veda for next six months. The day is auspicious because as per Indian mythology Lord Vishnu was incarnated as Lord Hayagriva,the lord of knowledge, the one who restored the Vedas to Brahma.

Kajari Purnima

Kajari Purnima Falls on the same day as Raksha Bandhan that is on the Shravan Purnima. This festival is mainly celebrated in the Central India that includes Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and part of Uttar Pradesh. Since this festival falls at the end of the monsoon season, it is of great importance to the farmers.

On the ninth day after Shravana Amavasya, the preparations of the kajari festival start. This ninth day is called Kajari Navami. The rituals are performed by the ladies blessed with a son. The rituals continye till the Kajri Purnima or the full moon day.

On the Shravan Shukla Navami, women go to fields and bring earth in the leaf cups. Leaf or barley is sown in it and kept in a dark room where no sunlight or fresh air reaches. The place where this leaf cup is kept and the surrounding walls are cleaned and washed with mud and cow dung. The place then is decorated patterns made by rice solution.The motifs are generally the house hold articles and activities. Figures of a house, a child in cradle, a mongoose and a woman with a pitcher are mandatory figures. This art of drawing with the rice solution on mud washed floor is called Navami. And then the cup is worshiped.

The worship is repeated fot seven days till the full moon day. The evening of the full moon day has the final ritual. The women move out in procession carrying the leaf cups on their heads. They carry it to a pond or any other water body and immerse it. Women keep fast on this day and pray for the well being of their sons.

The festival is of importance to the farmers as it signifies the beginning of the sowing season for wheat and barley. They worship Godess Bagwati and seek blessings for a good crop.

Importance of Raksha Bandhan

Around mid-August, Hindus all over the world celebrate Raksha bandhan. "Raksha" means protection, and "bandhan" means bound or binding.

In North India, the occasion is popularly called Rakhi, Raksha Bandhan or Rakshaa Bandhan- the tying of an amulet.

In ancient times a woman tied a 'rakshaa' on her husband's wrist to protect him from evil. Gradually this changed; she tied a 'rakshaa' on her brother's right wrist, to protect him from evil influence and those factors which may taint his character, and to strengthen the bond of sibling love between them. On the occasion of Rakshaa Bandhan she visits her brother's home and performs his 'pujan' by applying kumkum and rice grains on his forehead. In return the brother gives her a gift and vows to protect her too. The 'rakhadi' for rakshaa bandhan itself ranges from a coloured cotton string to exquisitely decorated balls of various sizes and materials such as fluffy cotton, 'zari' paper, tinsel, beads and so on.

On Rakshaa Bandhan a second imortance relates to 'Baleva' and our devotion to the Lord. Just as Bali Raja offered devotion to Lord Narayan by sacrificing his kingdom and himself, devotees should endeavor to emulate him. That is the true spirit of Baleva.

Rakshaa bandhan day is important for the priests too, as they tie rakhis on their patrons wrist and in return receive offerings from them. In some parts of the country it is customary to draw figures on the walls of their home and worship them with offerings of vermilion and kheer. The imprints of palms are also put on either side of the entrance and rakhis are stuck on them as part of rakshaa bandhan rituals. Some parts of India also reserve Rakshaa Bandhan day importance for the sacred thread changing ceremony when the young brahmin boys discard the old one and don a new one ritualistically. However, on rakshaa bandhan it is the emotions which are important. The rakshaa bandhan ceremony performed is the symbolic everlasting bond between brothers and sisters that reinforces ties between them even across continents, and it is the one which has the most importance on this auspicious day.

Raksha Bandhan is a festival which celebrates the bond of affection between brothers and sisters. The name 'Raksha Bandhan' suggests 'a bond of protection'. On this auspicious day, brothers make a promise to their sisters to protect them from all harms and troubles and the sisters pray to God to protect their brother from all evil. The festival falls on the Shravan Purnima which comes generally in the month of August. Sisters tie the silk thread called Rakhi on their brother's wrist and pray for their well being and brothers promise to take care of their sisters.

The Significance
Raksha Bandhan is now considered as a day to celebrate the sacred relation of a brother and a sister. Yet there have been examples in history where in rakhi has just been a raksha or protection. It could be tied by wife, a daughter or mother. The Rishis tied rakhi to the people who came seeking their blessings. The sages tied the sacred thread to themselves to safe guard them from the evil. It is by all means the 'Papa Todak, Punya Pradayak Parva' or the day that bestows boons and end all sins as it is mentioned in the scriptures.

Previously, Rakhi festival encompasses the warmth shared between the siblings but now it goes way beyond it. Some people tie Rakhi to neighbours and close friends signifying a peaceful co-existence of every individual. Rakhi Utsav was first popularized by Rabindranath Tagore to promote the feeling of unity and a commitment to all members of society to protect each other and encourage a harmonious Social life.

In today's scenario, the day has a different perspective. The occasion involves a pledge of life-time practice of moral, cultural and spiritual values. The values and the sentiments attached to the rituals of this festival are worth inculcating by the whole human race, the sentiments of harmony and peaceful coexistence. The festival of Raksha Bandhan assumes all forms of Raksha or protection, of righteousness and destroyer of all sin. The ritual of Rakhi tying has become so important that come what may, brothers and sisters try to visit each other place on this particular day tin order to bring back the oneness of the family, binding the family together in an emotional bond of love.

ശബരിമല : ഭക്തസഹസ്രങ്ങളുടെ കണ്ഠങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നുയര്‍ന്ന ശരണാരവങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടെ ശബരിഗിരിനാഥന്‍ ശനീശ്വരനയ്യപ്പന്‍ പുണ്യപമ്പയില്‍ ആറാടി. ശ്രീധര്‍മ്മശാസ്താവ് പള്ളിനീരാട്ട് നടത്തിയപ്പോള്‍ ഭക്തസഹസ്രങ്ങള്‍ പമ്പയില്‍ മുങ്ങി സുകൃതം നേടി. ഇന്നലെ ആറാട്ടുകഴിഞ്ഞ് വൈകിട്ട് നാലു മണിയോടെ പമ്പയില്‍

നിന്നും തിരിച്ചെഴുന്നെള്ളത്ത് ആരംഭിച്ചു. രാത്രി ഏഴു മണിയോടെ ശബരീശന്‍ സന്നിധാനത്തെത്തിയപ്പോള്‍ തന്ത്രി കണ്ഠരര് രാജീവരരുടെ മുഖ്യകാര്‍മ്മികത്വത്തില്‍ കൊടിയിറക്കി. ഇതോടെ പത്തുദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിന്ന തിരുവുത്സവത്തിന് സമാപ്തിയായി.

ആറാട്ടിന് ശേഷം വൈകിട്ട് നാല് മണിയോടെ സന്നിധാനത്തേക്ക് തിരിച്ചെഴുന്നെള്ളത്ത് ആരംഭിച്ചു. വൈകുന്നേരത്തോടെ എഴുന്നെള്ളത്ത് സന്നിധാനത്തെത്തി. തുടര്‍ന്ന് കൊടിയിറക്കി. തിടമ്പില്‍ നിന്നും മാറ്റിയ ശീവേലി വിഗ്രഹത്തിലേക്ക് കൊടിക്കൂറയിലെ ദേവചൈതന്യത്തെ ആവാഹിച്ച ശേഷം വിഗ്രഹം ശ്രീകോവിലിനുള്ളിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോയി ദേവചൈതന്യത്തെ മൂലബിംബത്തിലേക്ക് ആവാഹിച്ചു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് കലശവും ഉച്ചപൂജയും ദീപാരാധനയും അത്താഴപൂജയും നടന്നു. പിന്നീട് ഹരിവരാസനംപാടി നടയടച്ചതോടെ പത്തുദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിന്ന ആറാട്ടുത്സവത്തിന് പരിസമാപ്തിയായി.

ഇന്നലെ രാവിലെ ഒമ്പത് മണിയോടെയാണ് അയ്യപ്പസ്വാമി ആറാട്ടിനായി പമ്പയിലേക്ക് എഴുന്നെള്ളിയത്. രാവിലെ തന്ത്രി കണ്ഠരര് രാജീവരര് മൂലബിംബത്തില്‍ നിന്നും ദേവചൈതന്യത്തെ ശീവേലി വിഗ്രഹത്തിലേക്ക് ആവാഹിച്ച് ആറാട്ടിനായി ശ്രീകോവിലില്‍ നിന്നും പുറത്തിറങ്ങി. പാണികൊട്ടി ശ്രീകോവിലിന് പ്രദക്ഷിണംവെച്ച് തന്ത്രി ആറാട്ടുബലിതൂകി. തുടര്‍ന്ന് മേല്‍ശാന്തി എന്‍.വിഷ്ണുനമ്പൂതിരി കൊടിമരച്ചുവട്ടില്‍ ശീവേലിവിഗ്രഹം തിടമ്പിലുറപ്പിച്ചു. പിന്നെ പതിനെട്ടാംപടിയിറങ്ങി നെറ്റിപ്പട്ടംകെട്ടി നിന്ന കൊടുമണ്‍ മുരുകന്റെ മസ്തകത്തില്‍ തിടമ്പേറ്റി. വാദ്യമേളങ്ങളുടെ അകമ്പടിയോടെ ആറാട്ടിനായി പമ്പയിലേക്ക് പുറപ്പെട്ടു. 10.30 ഓടെ ആറാട്ടെഴുന്നെള്ളിപ്പ് പമ്പ ഗണപതിക്കോവിലിലെത്തി. അവിടെ ഇറക്കിവെച്ച് പൂജനടത്തി തിടമ്പില്‍ നിന്നും വിഗ്രഹമെടുത്ത് തന്ത്രിയും മേല്‍ശാന്തിയും പരികര്‍മ്മികളുമായി പമ്പാനദിയില്‍ പ്രത്യേകം തയ്യാറാക്കിയ ആറാട്ടുകടവിലേക്കെഴുന്നെള്ളിച്ചു. ആറാട്ടുകടവില്‍ പീഠമിട്ട് അതില്‍ വിഗ്രഹംവെച്ച് തന്ത്രി ആറാട്ടുപൂജ നടത്തി. ആറാട്ടുപൂജയുടെ സ്നാനഘട്ടത്തില്‍ തന്ത്രി കണ്ഠരര് രാജീവരരും മേല്‍ശാന്തി എന്‍.വിഷ്ണുനമ്പൂതിരിയും ചേര്‍ന്ന് വിഗ്രഹവുമേന്തി പമ്പയില്‍ മുങ്ങിനിവര്‍ന്നു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് വീണ്ടും പീഠത്തില്‍വെച്ച് പൂജനടത്തി. എണ്ണയും മഞ്ഞളും ഇളനീരുമാടി ശംഖാഭിഷേകവും കഴിഞ്ഞ് ശുദ്ധിയാക്കിയ അയ്യപ്പവിഗ്രഹവുമായി തന്ത്രിയും മേല്‍ശാന്തിയും മൂന്നുതവണ മുങ്ങിനിവര്‍ന്നു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് കടവില്‍വെച്ചുതന്നെ ശബരീശന് നേദ്യവും, പ്രസന്നപൂജയും കഴിച്ച് പാണികൊട്ടി ഗണപതിക്കോവിലിലേക്ക് ആനയിച്ചു. ഗണപതിക്കോവിലില്‍ പ്രത്യേകം തയ്യാര്‍ ചെയ്ത പീഠത്തില്‍ എഴുന്നെള്ളിച്ചിരുത്തിയ അയ്യപ്പസ്വാമിക്ക് മുമ്പില്‍ നൂറുകണക്കിന് ഭക്തര്‍ പറവഴിപാട് സമര്‍പ്പിച്ച് സായൂജ്യംനേടി.

Omnipotence: Lord Hanuman is the only deity that cannot be troubled by negative energies. He was born of the absolute air element (vayutattva). The well-known story that the baby Hanuman leaped to devour the sun at birth, implies that the absolute air element (signified by Lord Hanuman in the story) is subtler and therefore, more powerful than the absolute fire element (tejtattva) (signified by the sun in the story).

Supreme devotion (bhakti): Hanuman’s devotion and service unto Lord Rama is the best example of devotion of a servitor (dasyabhakti) unto The Lord. He was ever ready to sacrifice even His life for the sake of His Lord. Before the service of His Lord even the attainment of Liberation (Moksha) was worthless to Him. Hanuman is an ideal combination of a servitor and a warrior!

Science behind statues (murti) of Lord Hanuman

Statue of Lord Hanuman facing the south (Dakshinamukhi Maruti): South refers to the direction south or the right side. Since the sun channel (surya nadi) is active in the right-facing Hanuman, His statue has more manifest energy. This form of Hanuman is worshipped to overcome any problems due to negative energy*. Statue of Lord Hanuman facing the north (Vamamukhi Maruti): North refers to the direction north or the left side. Since the moon channel (chandra nadi) is active in the left-facing Hanuman, His statue has less manifest energy. This form of Hanuman is worshipped to make spiritual progress.
Statue of Lord Hanuman as the Servitor (Dasmaruti) has Him standing before Lord Rama in obeisance. This statue emanates subtle vibrations of spiritual emotion (bhav). His statue as the courageous One (Viramaruti) shows Him ready for battle. This statue emanates the more gross, positive energy and hence, is worshipped to overcome problems of negative energy, such as possession, black magic, etc.

Worship of Lord Hanuman

Objectives: Since the manifest energy in Lord Hanuman (70%) is much more in comparison to that in other deities (10%), He is worshipped in the context of energy as follows.

To overcome distressing energy: To overcome problems due to evil spirits, black magic, departed ancestors’ subtle bodies, influence of the planet Saturn (Shani), etc.
To control pleasant energy: To overcome any obstacle in the pathway of the activated spiritual energy system (kundalini) and to channelize it appropriately, so that the seeker can continue his spiritual practice smoothly.

History and significance of Hanuman Jayanthi

In the Heavenly, Divine Realms, there was a girl named Punjikasthala who was an attendant to Brihaspati, the preceptor of the gods. However, one time she insulted a sage, and thus he cursed her to be born on Earth as a female monkey, a curse which could only be removed by giving birth to a son who would be an incarnation of Lord Shiva.

Thus, she took birth as Anjana and later married Kesari. Both were very pious and pure, and they lived a life filled with austerities, worship, meditation and penance. Anjana prayed to the God of Wind, Vayu that He would grace her with a son. He fulfilled this wish and graced her with Hanuman. She also prayed to Lord Shiva to take birth in her womb, thereby freeing her from the curse of living as a female monkey.

Lord Shiva was pleased by her purity and devotion and also by her intense spiritual practice; therefore, He agreed to incarnate in her womb as her son. In that way, the divine Hanuman took birth on the 14th day of the month of Chaitra in a cave on the Rushyamuk mountain.

Upon his birth, Anjana was freed from the curse and able to return to the Heavenly realms. The life of Lord Hanuman is filled with feats of courage and displays of immeasurable strength. However, he is worshipped not as much for his bravery as for his humble devotion. What makes Hanuman so special and divine is not his invincible strength or fortitude, but rather his unwavering and boundless devotion to Lord Rama.

From the moment Hanuman first had Lord Rama’s darshan, he dedicated his life only to the service of Lord Rama. Hanuman demonstrated the omnipotent power of faith and devotion. He was able to fly across the ocean, to become the size of a giant and also the size of a tiny creature, simply by chanting the name of Lord Rama.

When he was sent to bring four precious life-saving herbs from the Himalayas in order to save Lakshman’s life, instead of bringing only the four plants, he carried the entire Himalayan mountain! Sometimes in life when we embark upon a new, noble undertaking we may be faced with obstacles and hurdles. However, we must always remember that faith and devotion to God are the greatest sources of power.

Through chanting God’s name with true devotion, we can achieve anything. The power of God’s name gave Hanuman the ability to fly across the ocean and to carry mountains. The key was his fervent, ardent, single-minded “shraddha” (faith) in God and his tenacious dedication to fulfilling whatever seva he could do. With such deep, true devotion and dedication, nothing could stop him.

After the war in Lanka, Ma Sitaji presented Hanuman with a beautiful, precious pearl necklace as a gift of gratitude. Hanuman proceeded to carefully examine each and every pearl - from top to bottom, from left to right. Then, he began to take the pearls off the string, one by one, bite them in half, again examine them thoroughly, and then throw them on the ground.

Ma Sitaji could not watch this. Finally she said, “Hanuman - what are you doing? That is a very expensive, precious necklace I have bought for you. Why are you pulling off the pearls and breaking them?” Hanuman replied, “I am looking for Rama. You have said these pearls are priceless and precious. If so, they must have Rama inside them.” Pearls (and diamonds and rubies and cars and money) are only precious if they are filled with God. If God is not there, it doesn’t matter how expensive the diamond is, it is still empty and useless. God’s presence in your life can turn stones to diamonds, but without God your diamonds are as worthless as stones.

The two most important messages of Hanuman’s life are the messages of faith and devotion.

When Hanuman needed to fly across the ocean in order to rescue Sita Ma, he didn’t hesitate. He didn’t wonder, “Am I really strong enough? Can I really do this? What if I fall?” Rather, he just took Lord Rama’s name (prayed to God) and jumped! This is the total surrender and devotion we must cultivate in our lives.
The second message is the message of single-minded devotion. We pray in our lives for so many things - cars, houses, promotions, i-pods. We pray for these things thinking they will bring us joy, but the momentary pleasure we feel are simply that: momentary and quickly fleeting. It is only when we have God’s presence in our lives that we attain the true, everlasting joy and fulfillment.

Varun Gandhi sent to judicial custody till Monday

Bharatiya Janata Party's saffron soldier Varun Gandhi has been arrested and sent to judicial custody till Monday. So Varun's political gambit to play a Hindutva martyr seems to have paid off.

Varun earlier filed an application before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Pilibhit to surrender.

Speaking to mediapersons after filing his surrender plea, Varun said he believes in his principles and is ready to go to jail.

"If by going to jail, people get strength to standup for their rights, I am ready to go to jail," Varun said.

"I believe in my principles and am willing to fight for them. I have full faith in the law and judiciary," he added.

Meanwhile, the BJP has finally come out in the open on Varun Gandhi's Pilibhit agenda, as the leader reached his constituency.

BJP spokesperson Balbir Punj has said that Varun is responding as true political worker of the party.

Reacting to the showdown in Pilibhit, he said, "People in and outside Pilibhit are responding to the situation."

Earlier Senior leader and in-charge of the BJP's UP campaign Kalraj Mishra told NDTV that Varun will indeed court arrest.

After maintaining silence on reports of Varun's gameplan to play victim, the party on Saturday sent Kalraj Mishra to Pilibhit to be with Varun when he courts arrest.

So it's now clear that Varun has emerged as the BJP's new trump card.

As the BJP's saffron soldier Varun Gandhi heads for Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, the atmosphere in the area is charged.

Hundreds of supporters have been gathering in Pilibhit since early Saturday morning and there are reports coming in that in some places in the district, there have been some minor clashes between BJP workers and police. The administration has now imposed section 144 in the entire district, which bans the gathering of more than four people.

This is Varun's first visit to Pilibhit after the controversy over his hate speech erupted.

The visit seems to have been carefully planned with the party's rank and file turning up in large numbers to welcome their new saffron hero. The BJP while distancing itself from his hate speech has backed him completely.

It has however refrained from coming out openly in favour of his Pilibhit agenda. The party reportedly does not want Varun to do anything that would make Pilibhit a flashpoint. This could be the reason why senior leader and in-charge for UP Kalraj Mishra is accompanying Varun.

Varun left New Delhi at the crack of dawn and is expected to court arrest as he withdrew his anticipatory bail application on Saturday. But the big question is - will his gambit to become a Hindutva martyr pay off?

What could play spoiler for Varun is UP Chief Minister Mayawati. The UP Chief Minister reportedly does not want him to be arrested, as it will be playing right into his game plan to win votes by projecting himself as a victim.

To preempt any trouble, Provincial Armed Constabulary jawans staged a flag march in Pilibhit on Saturday evening.

മതേതരത്വവും ചതിക്കുഴികളും

മതമൗലിക-മത ഭീകര പ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ പതിപ്പുകളുമായിട്ടാണ്‌ മതേതര കക്ഷികളെന്നവകാശപ്പെടുന്ന ഇടത്‌-വലത്‌ മുന്നണികള്‍ ഇവിടെ സന്ധിയും സഖ്യവുമുണ്ടാക്കിയിട്ടുള്ളത്‌. നാടിന്റെ ആത്മാവിനെ
കുരുതി കൊടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രീയ നേട്ടം വേണ്ടെന്നു വെക്കാന്‍ രാജ്യനൈതിക കക്ഷികള്‍ തയ്യാറാകേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു

ഇ ടതുപക്ഷ-കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്‌ വോട്ടുബാങ്ക്‌ പ്രീണന രാഷ്ട്രീയം സൃഷ്‌ടിക്കുന്ന ചതിക്കുഴികള്‍ മതേതര രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിന്‌ ഗുരുതര ഭീഷണിയാണുയര്‍ത്തുന്നത്‌. ഭരണഘടന മതനിരപേക്ഷത ഉയര്‍ത്തിപ്പിടിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും 'സെക്യുലറിസത്തിന്‌' വ്യക്തമായ നിര്‍വചനം നല്‍കിയിട്ടില്ല. 42-ാം ഭരണഘടനാ ഭേദഗതിയിലൂടെ പ്രഖ്യാപിത ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ പ്രസ്‌തുത പദം ഉള്‍പ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. സര്‍വ, ധര്‍മ, സമഭാവം അടിസ്ഥാനശിലയാക്കി രൂപംകൊണ്ട ഒരു മഹാസംസ്‌കാരത്തിന്റെ അനുസ്യൂത പ്രവാഹമാണ്‌ ഭാരതം. ഇതുകൊണ്ടാവാം ഭരണഘടനാ നിര്‍മാതാക്കള്‍ ഇക്കാര്യത്തില്‍ പ്രത്യേക നിര്‍വചനം നല്‍കാതിരുന്നത്‌.
മതമുക്ത രാഷ്ട്രീയം മാലിന്യമാണെന്ന്‌ ഉദ്‌ഘോഷിച്ച ഗാന്ധിജിയുടെ വാക്കുകള്‍ ഭാവാത്മക മതേതരത്വത്തെയാണ്‌ ഉന്നംവെച്ചത്‌. എന്നാല്‍ മതനിരാസവും മതത്തോടുള്ള നിഷേധവുമാണ്‌ മതേതരത്വമെന്നവിടെ വ്യാഖ്യാനിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ഈ തെറ്റായ ധാരണ ജനങ്ങളെക്കൊണ്ട്‌ ഉരുവിട്ടു പഠിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്‌തു.
ഇത്തരം അപഭ്രംശത്തിനിടയായതില്‍ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്‌-ഇടതുകക്ഷികള്‍ക്ക്‌ കുറ്റകരമായ പങ്കുണ്ട്‌. യഥേഷ്‌ടം തന്ത്രങ്ങള്‍ മെനഞ്ഞെടുക്കാന്‍ സെക്യുലറിസത്തെ രാഷ്ട്രീയാവശ്യത്തിന്‌ ഉപയോഗിക്കുക വഴി അതിന്റെ അന്തഃസത്തതന്നെ നഷ്‌ടപ്പെടാന്‍ ഇടയായിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. എന്നാല്‍ സുപ്രീംകോടതി നല്‍കിയിട്ടുള്ള വിവിധ വ്യാഖ്യാനങ്ങള്‍ വഴി സര്‍വധര്‍മ സമഭാവത്തിന്റെ ഭാവാത്മകതലം മതനിരപേക്ഷത എന്ന ആശയത്തിന്‌ ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്‌.
ലോക്‌സഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ്‌ ആസന്നമായതോടെ മതേതര സംരക്ഷണത്തിന്റെ പുത്തന്‍ സമവാക്യങ്ങള്‍ വെളിപാടുകളായി നമുക്കുചുറ്റും എത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. കഴിഞ്ഞാഴ്‌ച സി.പി.എം. അഖിലേന്ത്യാ ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി പ്രകാശ്‌ കാരാട്ട്‌ മുസ്‌ലിം ലീഗ്‌ വര്‍ഗീയ കക്ഷിയാണെന്ന്‌ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. തൊട്ടടുത്തദിവസം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പാര്‍ട്ടിയുടെ കേരളഘടകം പി.ഡി.പി.യെ മതേതര കക്ഷിയായി ചിത്രീകരിച്ച്‌ ഇടതുപക്ഷ കൂട്ടായ്‌മയുടെ ഭാഗമാക്കി. അബ്ദുള്‍നാസര്‍ മഅദനിയെ വാഴ്‌ത്തപ്പെട്ടവനാക്കാനും സി.പി.ഐ.യെ വീഴ്‌ത്താനും പൊന്നാനിയിലെ ചവിട്ടുനാടകത്തിന്‌ അരങ്ങൊരുക്കാനുമൊക്കെകൂടി സി.പി.എമ്മിന്‌ അധികസമയം വേണ്ടിവന്നില്ല. ഇതെല്ലാം കണ്ടും സഹിച്ചും കഴിയുന്ന മലയാളി മടയനല്ലെന്നും മറവിരോഗമുള്ളവനല്ലെന്നും തെളിയിക്കാന്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ അവസരം ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കയാണ്‌.
മതേതരത്വ സംരക്ഷണം അജന്‍ഡയായി എക്കാലത്തും നേട്ടമുണ്ടാക്കുന്നവരാണ്‌ യു.ഡി.എഫ്‌, എല്‍.ഡി.എഫ്‌. മുന്നണികളിലുള്ളത്‌. സംഘപരിവാറിനെ പ്രതിയോഗിയാക്കിക്കാട്ടി ന്യൂനപക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ മനസ്സില്‍ 'ഫോബിയ' സൃഷ്‌ടിച്ച്‌ മുതലെടുക്കുക എന്ന തന്ത്രമാണ്‌ ഇരുമുന്നണികളും ഇവിടെ സ്വീകരിച്ചുവരുന്നത്‌. അന്യോന്യം പോര്‍വിളിച്ചും പോരാട്ടം നടത്തിയും ഡല്‍ഹിയില്‍ എത്തിയവര്‍ ഒന്നിച്ച്‌ യു.പി.എ.യുടെ കുടക്കീഴില്‍ നാലരക്കൊല്ലം ഭരണകക്ഷിയായി കഴിയുന്നതിന്‌ പറഞ്ഞ ന്യായീകരണം ബി.ജെ.പി.യെ തടഞ്ഞ്‌ മതേതരത്വം ഉയര്‍ത്തിപ്പിടിക്കുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു. 15-ാം ലോക്‌സഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിനുശേഷവും ബി.ജെ.പി.യെ തടയാനെന്ന പേരില്‍ മാര്‍ക്‌സിസ്റ്റ്‌-കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്‌-ലീഗ്‌ കൂട്ടായ്‌മ ഇന്ദ്രപ്രസ്ഥത്തില്‍ രൂപപ്പെടുന്നതിനുള്ള സാധ്യത തള്ളിക്കളയാനാവില്ല
ജാതി മത-വര്‍ഗീയ പ്രീണനം ശക്തിസ്രോതസ്സായി സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന്റ ആദ്യദശകം മുതല്‍ കൊണ്ടുനടക്കുന്നവരും അത്‌ മുതലാക്കുന്നവരുമാണ്‌ കേരളത്തിലെ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്‌-കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്‌ പ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങള്‍. ''ദേശീയ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്‌ രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിലെ, പുഴുക്കുത്താണ്‌ കേരളത്തിലെ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്സെന്ന്‌'' ഗുല്‍സാരിലാല്‍ നന്ദ 1960 കളില്‍ അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. ജാതിമത സമ്മര്‍ദത്തിന്‌ വഴങ്ങുന്ന കേരളത്തിലെ നാണംകെട്ട രാഷ്ട്രീയം കണ്ടിട്ടാണ്‌ അദ്ദേഹമങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞത്‌. കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്സിലെ പ്രമുഖ എഴുത്തുകാരനായിരുന്ന ചെറിയാന്‍ ഫിലിപ്പ്‌ തയ്യാറാക്കിയ 'കാല്‍നൂറ്റാണ്ട്‌' ഗ്രന്ഥത്തില്‍ ''കേരളത്തിലെ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്സിന്റെ ലൈറ്റ്‌ ഹൗസുകള്‍ ബിഷപ്പ്‌ ഹൗസുകളും അരമനകളുമാണ്‌'' എന്ന്‌ തുറന്നെഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. ഇപ്പോള്‍ മതനേതാക്കന്മാരും ജാതിപ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങളും പുരോഹിതന്മാരുമൊക്കെ മതേതരകക്ഷികളുടെ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ഥികളെ നിശ്ചയിക്കാനും തീരുമാനത്തെ സ്വാധീനിക്കാനും പരസ്യമായിപ്പോലും രംഗത്തിറങ്ങുന്ന സ്ഥിതിയല്ലേ ഇവിടെയുള്ളത്‌. മനസ്സും ബുദ്ധിയും നീതിബോധവും ജാതി - മത നേതൃത്വങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ തീറെഴുതിയവര്‍ക്ക്‌ മതേതരത്വത്തെക്കുറിച്ച്‌ ഊറ്റം കൊള്ളാന്‍ എന്തവകാശമാണുള്ളത്‌?
മതമുക്ത രാഷ്ട്രീയം മുഖമുദ്രയാക്കിയ കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്‌ പാര്‍ട്ടി പോലും ജാതിമത പ്രീണനം ഇന്ധനമാക്കി രാഷ്ട്രീയ സമവാക്യങ്ങള്‍ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന നാടാണ്‌ കേരളം. 1949 ല്‍ കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്‌ പാര്‍ട്ടി കേഡറിനായി പുറത്തിറക്കിയ 'കേരള പാര്‍ട്ടിക്കകത്തെ മിതവാദിത്വം' എന്ന രേഖയില്‍ ഇപ്രകാരം എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ''മുസ്‌ലിം ലീഗിനെ മാത്രമല്ല, മറ്റെല്ലാ സാമുദായിക സംഘടനകളെയും നാം ഇവിടെ വളര്‍ത്തുകയും പുഷ്‌ടിപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്‌തു.'' (അവലംബം: കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്‌ ഭരണം - കൈനിക്കര പേജ്‌ -13) ഇ.എം.എസ്‌. യോഗക്ഷേമ പ്രസിഡന്റായി അത്‌ പുനരുജ്ജീവിപ്പിച്ചതും പി.ഗംഗാധരന്‍ എസ്‌.എന്‍.ഡി.പി.യുടെ കൊച്ചിയിലെ സംഘടനാ സെക്രട്ടറിയായതും ചാത്തന്‍മാസ്റ്റര്‍ പുലയ മഹാസഭാ നേതാവായതും എന്‍.എസ്‌.എസ്‌., മുസ്‌ലിം ലീഗ്‌ എന്നീ സംഘടനകളിലേക്ക്‌ ചിലരെ അയച്ചതുമൊക്കെ പാര്‍ട്ടി 'സ്‌ട്രാറ്റജി'യുടെ ഭാഗമായിട്ടായിരുന്നു.
1957-ലെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ ബാലറ്റ്‌വഴി ഭൂരിപക്ഷം നേടി കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്‌ പാര്‍ട്ടി അധികാരത്തില്‍ വന്നിരുന്നു. ചങ്ങനാശ്ശേരിയിലും ചുറ്റിലുമായി അഞ്ചു മണ്ഡലങ്ങളില്‍ നായര്‍ യുവാക്കള്‍ അന്ന്‌ കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്‌ എം.എല്‍.എ.മാരായത്‌ മന്നവുമായുള്ള 'രഹസ്യബന്ധവും നിശ്ശബ്ദ പിന്തുണയും' കൊണ്ടായിരുന്നുവത്രെ! മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി അച്യുതാനന്ദന്‍ അവതാരിക എഴുതിയിട്ടുള്ള അഡ്വ. ജി. ജനാര്‍ദനക്കുറുപ്പിന്റെ ആത്മകഥയായ 'എന്റെ ജീവിതം' പേജ്‌ 215 ല്‍ ഈ നിശ്ശബ്ദ പിന്തുണയുടെ വിശദാംശങ്ങള്‍ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. അന്നത്തെ കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്‌ പാര്‍ട്ടി സെക്രട്ടറിയായിരുന്ന എം.എന്‍. ഗോവിന്ദന്‍നായരും ഗ്രന്ഥകര്‍ത്താവും കേശവന്‍ പോറ്റിയുമാണ്‌ എന്‍.എസ്‌.എസ്‌. ആസ്ഥാനത്തുപോയി മന്നത്തിന്റെ നിശ്ശബ്ദ പിന്തുണ തരപ്പെടുത്തിയത്‌.
സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യ നാളുകളില്‍ തന്നെ, കേരളത്തിലെ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്‌ - കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്‌ പാര്‍ട്ടികള്‍ കൈയാളിയിരുന്ന മതപ്രീണനത്തിന്റെയും വര്‍ഗീയതയിലൂന്നിയ അജന്‍ഡയുടെയും മോശപ്പെട്ട ചിത്രം ദേശീയ നേതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലും ആശങ്കാകുലരാക്കിയിരുന്നു. സോഷ്യലിസ്റ്റ്‌ ആചാര്യനും തലയെടുപ്പുള്ള ദേശീയനേതാവുമായിരുന്ന ഡോ. റാം മനോഹര്‍ ലോഹ്യ ഇപ്രകാരം എഴുതിയിരുന്നു: ''ഞാന്‍ കേരളത്തിലെ ഗവണ്‍മെന്റും ലഖ്‌നൗവിലെയും ഡല്‍ഹിയിലെയും ഗവണ്‍മെന്റുകളും തമ്മില്‍ ഒരു വ്യത്യാസവും കാണുന്നില്ല. യഥാര്‍ഥത്തില്‍ കേരളത്തിലെ കമ്യൂണിസം ഒരളവുവരെ രാഷ്ട്രീയ ഹിന്ദുയിസവും കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്‌ രാഷ്ട്രീയ ക്രിസ്‌തീയത്വവും ആണ്‌.'' (ലോഹ്യ - സാര്‍വദേശീയ വിപ്ലവകാരി - പേജ്‌ -1041).
വിഭജനത്തെത്തുടര്‍ന്ന്‌ മുസ്‌ലിം ലീഗിനെ നാടൊന്നാകെ വെറുക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന കാലയളവില്‍ തന്നെ അവരുമായി സഖ്യമുണ്ടാക്കാന്‍ മലബാര്‍ ജില്ലാ ബോര്‍ഡില്‍ പുരോഗമന കക്ഷികള്‍ മുന്നോട്ടുവന്നിരുന്നു. ഇതുമൂലം 1949-ല്‍ ലീഗിന്‌ ബോര്‍ഡില്‍ ഔദ്യോഗിക പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതൃസ്ഥാനം ലഭിച്ചു. 1954-ല്‍ ലീഗ്‌ - കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്‌ ബന്ധം സഹകരണാത്മകമായി മുന്നേറിയതില്‍ ഇ.എം.എസ്‌. 'കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്‌ പാര്‍ട്ടി കേരളത്തില്‍' എന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥത്തില്‍ (രണ്ടാം ഭാഗം പേജ്‌ 39) അഭിമാനം കൊള്ളുന്നുണ്ട്‌. അക്കാലത്ത്‌ ബി.ജെ.പി.യും ജനസംഘവുമുള്ളതുകൊണ്ടല്ലല്ലോ കേരളം ജാതി - മത പ്രീണനത്തിലമര്‍ന്നത്‌? സി.പി.എം. - കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്‌ കക്ഷികള്‍ മതേതര സംരക്ഷകരായിവിടെ വേഷം കെട്ടിയാടുന്നതു കാണുമ്പോള്‍ ആത്മാര്‍ഥത - സത്യസന്ധത എന്നീ വാക്കുകള്‍ നമുക്കിടയില്‍ നനഞ്ഞു ചുരുങ്ങിഇല്ലാതാകുകയാണ്‌ എന്ന്‌ തോന്നും.
ലീഗ്‌ വര്‍ഗീയ കക്ഷിയാണെന്ന്‌ ഇപ്പോള്‍ കണ്ടെത്തിയ സി.പി.എം. അഖിലേന്ത്യാ സെക്രട്ടറി അറിയാന്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രാഷ്ട്രീയ ഗുരുവായ ഇ.എം.എസ്‌. 1973 ലെ ദേശാഭിമാനി ഓണപ്പതിപ്പില്‍ എഴുതിയ വരികളാണ്‌ സ്‌മൃതിയുണര്‍ത്തുന്നത്‌. ''ഇന്നത്തെ ലീഗ്‌ പഴയതിന്റെ തുടര്‍ച്ചയാണോ അതിന്‌ വര്‍ഗീയസ്വഭാവമുണ്ടോ എന്നെല്ലാമുള്ള ചോദ്യം ചോദിക്കുകയും അതിന്‌ ഉത്തരം കണ്ടുപിടിക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത്‌ വെറുമൊരു നിഴല്‍ യുദ്ധമാണ്‌.'' തുടര്‍ന്നദ്ദേഹം അടുത്തകൊല്ലം പുറത്തുവന്ന ചിന്തയില്‍ വീണ്ടുമെഴുതി - ''മുസ്‌ലിം ലീഗ്‌ ചരിത്രപരമായി പ്രസക്തമാണ്‌. മുസ്‌ലിം പ്രശ്‌നങ്ങള്‍ പരിഹരിച്ചുകിട്ടണമെന്ന വിചാരം മുസ്‌ലിങ്ങളില്‍ നിലനില്‍ക്കുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തില്‍ മറ്റെല്ലാവരുമെതിര്‍ത്താലും ലീഗ്‌ തുടരും'' (ചിന്ത 15.3.1974).
സി.പി.എം. 1967 ല്‍ മുസ്‌ലിം ലീഗുമായും പിന്നീട്‌ പ്രതിപക്ഷ ലീഗുമായും സഖ്യമുണ്ടാക്കി ഭരിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഐ.എന്‍.എല്ലുമായി കൂട്ടായ്‌മയുണ്ട്‌. അബ്ദുള്‍ നാസര്‍ മഅദനി എക്കാലത്തും വര്‍ഗീയ - രാഷ്ട്രവിരുദ്ധ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളുമായി കെട്ടുപിണഞ്ഞ്‌ സംശയത്തിന്റെ കരിനിഴലില്‍ നില്‍ക്കുന്നയാളാണ്‌. വര്‍ഗീയത ആരോപിച്ച്‌ നരസിംഹറാവു സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ നിരോധിച്ച ആര്‍.എസ്‌.എസ്‌., വിശ്വഹിന്ദു പരിഷത്ത്‌, ബജ്‌രംഗ്‌ദള്‍, ജമായത്തെ ഇസ്‌ലാമി എന്നീ സംഘടനകള്‍ക്കെതിരെ കുറ്റത്തിന്‌ തെളിവില്ലെന്ന കാരണത്താല്‍ കോടതി അവരെയെല്ലാം കുറ്റവിമുക്തരാക്കി നിരോധനം പിന്‍വലിച്ച്‌ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനസ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം തിരിച്ചുനല്‍കിയിരുന്നു.
എന്നാല്‍ ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ പി.ഡി.പി. ചെയര്‍മാന്റെ പ്രസ്ഥാനമായ ഐ.എസ്‌.എസ്സിനെ നിരോധിക്കാന്‍ വര്‍ഗീയ സ്‌പര്‍ധവളര്‍ത്തല്‍, ദേശദ്രോഹ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ കുറ്റങ്ങള്‍ ആരോപിച്ചിരുന്നു. പാകിസ്‌താന്‍ ബന്ധവും കുറ്റപത്രത്തിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇവയൊക്കെ ശരിയാണെന്ന്‌ കണ്ട്‌ ട്രൈബ്യൂണല്‍ മുതല്‍ സുപ്രീം കോടതിവരെ പ്രസ്‌തുത സംഘടനയുടെ നിരോധനം ശരിവെക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
സഖാവ്‌ നായനാര്‍ മുതല്‍ പി.ജയരാജന്‍ വരെ എഴുതിയിട്ടുള്ള ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളില്‍ മഅദനിയെ വര്‍ഗീയവാദിയും അപകടകാരിയുമായാണ്‌ ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്‌. എന്നിട്ടും മതേതരത്വത്തിന്റെ മേലങ്കിയണിഞ്ഞ്‌ രാഷ്ട്രീയ ആവശ്യാര്‍ഥം സി.പി.എമ്മിവിടെ പി.ഡി.പി.യെ വെള്ള പൂശുന്നു. യഥാര്‍ഥത്തില്‍ അവസരവാദത്തിനും ആത്മാര്‍ഥതയില്ലായ്‌മയ്‌ക്കും അവാര്‍ഡ്‌ കിട്ടേണ്ട പാര്‍ട്ടിയായി സി.പി.എം. മാറുകയാണ്‌.
മതഭരണകൂടമെന്ന ആശയം ഭാരതത്തിനെന്നും അന്യമാണ്‌. നമ്മുടെ രാഷ്ട്രസങ്കല്‌പം സാംസ്‌കാരികമാണ്‌. ഭരണപരമല്ല. ഹിന്ദുത്വം എന്ന സംജ്ഞ മതവാചിയല്ല. സാംസ്‌കാരികവാചിയാണ്‌. മൂന്നംഗ ബെഞ്ച്‌ ബി.ജെ.പി. ഉള്‍ക്കൊള്ളുന്ന 'ഹിന്ദുത്വം' ദേശസംജ്ഞയാണെന്നും ഭാരതീയ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിലെ ആബാലവൃദ്ധം ജനങ്ങളുടെ വിളിപ്പേരും ജീവിതരീതിയുടെ നാമധേയവുമാണെന്നും അതുപയോഗിച്ചാല്‍ വര്‍ഗീയതയോ കുറ്റമോ ആകില്ലെന്നും സുപ്രീംകോടതി പറഞ്ഞു. ബി.ജെ.പി.യും സംഘപരിവാര്‍ പ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങളും മതഭരണകൂടം എന്ന ആശയത്തിനെതിരാണ്‌. മതത്തിന്‌ ഒരു ജനതയെ ഏകീകരിക്കാനാവില്ല. എത്ര വ്യക്തികളുണ്ടോ അത്രയും മതങ്ങളുണ്ടെന്നതാണ്‌ ഭാരതീയ കാഴ്‌ചപ്പാട്‌.
മതങ്ങള്‍ക്കതീതമായി ദേശീയതയുടെയും പൊതുസംസ്‌കാരത്തിന്റെയും അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ ജനങ്ങളുടെ ഏകീകരണം സാധിക്കുകയാണ്‌ വേണ്ടത്‌. പാകിസ്‌താന്‍ രൂപവത്‌കരിച്ച്‌ ആദ്യനാളുകളില്‍ത്തന്നെ മുഹമ്മദലി ജിന്നയെയും ഭൂട്ടോയെയും തന്നെയും കാഫിറുകളായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച്‌ മതമൗലികവാദികള്‍ വേട്ടയാടിയെന്ന്‌ ബേനസീര്‍ ഭൂട്ടോ തന്റെ ഗ്രന്ഥത്തില്‍ പറയുന്നു. ഇസ്‌ലാമിന്റെയും ജനാധിപത്യത്തിന്റെയും മതേതരത്വത്തിന്റെയും യഥാര്‍ഥ ശത്രുക്കളാണ്‌ ഇക്കൂട്ടരെന്ന്‌ അവര്‍ കാര്യകാരണസഹിതം സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നതാണ്‌ കൊല്ലപ്പെടുന്നതിന്‌ രണ്ട്‌ ദിവസം മുമ്പ്‌ പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കിയ 'റീ കണ്‍സിലിയേഷന്‍' എന്ന പുസ്‌തകത്തില്‍ കാണുന്നത്‌. സ്വന്തം അനുഭവവും രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിന്റെ ദുരവസ്ഥയും കണ്ട്‌ വ്രണിതഹൃദയയായി അവര്‍ പഴിക്കുന്ന മതമൗലിക-മത ഭീകര പ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ പതിപ്പുകളുമായിട്ടാണ്‌ മതേതര കക്ഷികളെന്നവകാശപ്പെടുന്ന ഇടത്‌-വലത്‌ മുന്നണികള്‍ ഇവിടെ സന്ധിയും സഖ്യവുമുണ്ടാക്കിയിട്ടുള്ളത്‌. നാടിന്റെ ആത്മാവിനെ കുരുതി കൊടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രീയ നേട്ടം വേണ്ടെന്നു വെക്കാന്‍ രാജ്യനൈതിക കക്ഷികള്‍ തയ്യാറാകേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. മതേതര കക്ഷികള്‍ തീര്‍ത്ത ചതിക്കുഴികള്‍ മതേതരം നേരിടുന്ന വലിയ വെല്ലുവിളിയായി മാറാന്‍ അനുവദിച്ചുകൂടാ.

പിരിമുറുക്കത്തിന്റെ പോര്‍ക്കളം

മീ നച്ചൂടില്‍ ഉരുകിയൊലിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്‌ കണ്ണൂര്‍. പക്ഷേ, അതിലേറെ തിളച്ചുമറിയുകയാണ്‌ രാഷ്ട്രീയം. കേരളത്തില്‍ സി.പി.എം. പ്രത്യേക ശ്രദ്ധ ചെലുത്തുന്ന മണ്ഡലങ്ങളിലൊന്ന്‌. 1984 മുതല്‍ സീറ്റ്‌ കുത്തകയാക്കി വെച്ചിരുന്ന മുല്ലപ്പള്ളി രാമചന്ദ്രനില്‍നിന്ന്‌ 1999-ലാണ്‌ സി.പി.എം. കണ്ണൂര്‍ ലോക്‌സഭാ മണ്ഡലം പിടിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നത്‌. 1999-ലും 2004-ലും 'അത്ഭുതക്കുട്ടി'യായിരുന്ന എ.പി. അബ്ദുള്ളക്കുട്ടിയാണ്‌ മണ്ഡലത്തില്‍ ചെങ്കൊടി ഉയര്‍ത്തിയത്‌. ഇപ്പോള്‍ ആ 'കുട്ടി' മറ്റൊരു അത്ഭുതം കൂടി കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു- സി.പി.എമ്മിന്‌ ഇതുവരെ അത്തരമൊരു അവസ്ഥ നേരിടേണ്ടിവന്നിട്ടുണ്ടാവില്ല. പത്തു വര്‍ഷം പാര്‍ട്ടി പാര്‍ലമെന്റിലേക്കയച്ച എം.പി. ഇപ്പോള്‍ എതിര്‍പാളയത്തില്‍ മുഖ്യപ്രചാരകന്റെ വേഷത്തിലാണ്‌. സി.പി.എം. സാരഥി പിണറായി വിജയന്റെ സ്വന്തം തട്ടകത്തിലാണ്‌ ഇതെന്നത്‌ പാര്‍ട്ടിയെ ഒട്ടൊന്നുമല്ല ഉലയ്‌ക്കുന്നത്‌. അതോടൊപ്പം കണ്ണൂരിലെ മുഖ്യശത്രു കെ. സുധാകരന്‍ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ഥിവേഷത്തില്‍ രംഗത്തെത്തിയതോടെ സി.പി.എമ്മില്‍ വല്ലാത്ത പിരിമുറുക്കമുണ്ട്‌. സാധാരണ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ്‌ അങ്കം മാത്രമായി മാറേണ്ടിയിരുന്ന മത്സരം ആവേശവും ഉയര്‍ത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
അത്ഭുതക്കുട്ടി വഴിപിഴച്ചു പോയെങ്കിലും സി.പി.എം. പരീക്ഷണം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. എസ്‌.എഫ്‌.ഐ. അഖിലേന്ത്യാ ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറിയായിരുന്ന യുവനേതാവ്‌ കെ.കെ. രാഗേഷിനെയാണ്‌ അവര്‍ അങ്കത്തിനിറക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്‌. എസ്‌.എഫ്‌.ഐ. നേതാവായുള്ള ഒന്‍പതു വര്‍ഷത്തെ ഡല്‍ഹി വാസത്തിനുശേഷം ഈയിടെയാണ്‌ രാഗേഷ്‌ നാട്ടില്‍ തിരിച്ചെത്തിയത്‌. സി.പി.എം. സംസ്ഥാന കമ്മിറ്റി അംഗമായ രാഗേഷിന്റെ യുവത്വം തന്നെയാണ്‌ സി.പി.എം. ഉയര്‍ത്തിപ്പിടിക്കുന്നത്‌. എസ്‌.എഫ്‌.ഐ.യുടെ ജില്ലാതല നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍നിന്ന്‌ പടിപടിയായി ഉയര്‍ന്ന്‌ അഖിലേന്ത്യാ ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറിയാവുന്ന ആദ്യ മലയാളി എന്ന വിശേഷണവും ഈ നിയമബിരുദധാരിക്കുണ്ട്‌.
കെ. സുധാകരന്‍ കണ്ണൂരിലെ സിറ്റിങ്‌ എം.എല്‍.എ.യാണ്‌. പത്തു വര്‍ഷം കണ്ണൂര്‍ ഡി.സി.സി. പ്രസിഡന്റായിരുന്നു. ഇപ്പോള്‍ കെ.പി.സി.സി. ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറിയും. മൂന്നാം തവണയാണ്‌ കണ്ണൂരിലെ എം.എല്‍.എ. ആവുന്നത്‌. മണ്ഡലത്തില്‍ സുധാകരന്‌ ഒരു ആമുഖമേ വേണ്ട. തൊണ്ണൂറുകളില്‍ സി.പി.എമ്മിന്‌ എതിരെ പ്രതിരോധം തീര്‍ത്തതിന്റെ പേരില്‍ പ്രശസ്‌തിയും കുറച്ച്‌ പേരുദോഷവും കേള്‍പ്പിച്ച സുധാകരന്‍ എന്നും സി.പി.എമ്മിന്റെ ശത്രുവാണ്‌. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ സുധാകരനെ തളച്ചിടാന്‍ സി.പി.എം. എല്ലാ തന്ത്രങ്ങളും പയറ്റും. എ.കെ. ആന്റണി മന്ത്രിസഭയില്‍ വനം-സ്‌പോര്‍ട്‌സ്‌ മന്ത്രിയായിരുന്നു സുധാകരന്‍. കണ്ണൂര്‍ തിരിച്ചുപിടിക്കാന്‍ എല്ലാ ഗ്രൂപ്പുകാരും ഒരേസ്വരത്തില്‍ നിര്‍ദേശിച്ച പേരാണ്‌ സുധാകരന്‍േറത്‌.
2004-ല്‍ ഇടതുമുന്നണി 80,849 വോട്ടിന്റെ ഭൂരിപക്ഷമാണ്‌ കണ്ണൂര്‍ മണ്ഡലത്തില്‍ നേടിയത്‌ 1996-ല്‍ മുല്ലപ്പള്ളി രാമചന്ദ്രന്‍ 39,302 വോട്ടിനാണ്‌ കടന്നപ്പള്ളി രാമചന്ദ്രനെ തോല്‌പിച്ചത്‌. 98-ല്‍ കടന്നപ്പള്ളിക്കു പകരം അന്ന്‌ മന്ത്രിയായിരുന്ന എ.സി. ഷണ്‍മുഖദാസ്‌ വന്നപ്പോള്‍ ഭൂരിപക്ഷം 2180 ആയി കുറഞ്ഞു. പക്ഷേ, അബ്ദുള്ളക്കുട്ടി വന്നപ്പോള്‍ മുല്ലപ്പള്ളി അടിയറവ്‌ പറഞ്ഞത്‌ 10247 വോട്ടിനാണ്‌. 2004-ല്‍ മുസ്‌ലിം വോട്ടുകള്‍ ഏറെയും കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്സിന്‌ എതിരായാണ്‌ വീണത്‌.
കഴിഞ്ഞ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിലെ ഭൂരിപക്ഷം തന്നെയാണ്‌ സി.പി.എമ്മിന്‌ ഇത്തവണയും ആത്മവിശ്വാസം നല്‌കുന്ന പ്രധാന ഘടകം. കേരളത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച സംഘടനാസംവിധാനവും ഇവിടെ സി.പി.എമ്മിനുണ്ട്‌. മണ്ഡലത്തിന്റെ അതിര്‍ത്തി പുനര്‍നിര്‍ണയവും ഇടതുമുന്നണിക്ക്‌ ഗുണകരമാണെന്നാണ്‌ പൊതുനിഗമനം.
പക്ഷേ, ഇത്തവണ യു.ഡി.എഫ്‌. ക്യാമ്പില്‍ പതിവില്‍ക്കവിഞ്ഞ ആവേശമുണ്ട്‌, പ്രതീക്ഷകളും. കെ.സുധാകരന്റെ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ഥിത്വം തന്നെയാണ്‌ പ്രധാന ഘടകം. ഒപ്പം അബ്ദുള്ളക്കുട്ടിക്ക്‌ പ്രചാരണരംഗത്ത്‌ ഉണ്ടാക്കാവുന്ന ഓളങ്ങളും അവര്‍ മുന്നില്‍ക്കാണുന്നു.
എന്നാല്‍ മറ്റൊരു അപകടം യു.ഡി.എഫിലെ 'പക്വമതികള്‍' മുന്നില്‍ക്കാണുന്നുണ്ട്‌. സുധാകരന്റെ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ഥിത്വത്തോടെ കണ്ണൂരില്‍ മത്സരം മുറുകിയെന്നും സി.പി.എമ്മിന്റെ സംഘടനാസംവിധാനം അടിമുടി വര്‍ധിതവീര്യത്തോടെ വന്നാല്‍ ഗുണത്തേക്കാളേറെ അത്‌ ദോഷം ചെയ്യുമെന്നും അവര്‍ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു. കണ്ണൂര്‍ രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തില്‍ 'ജനാധിപത്യവോട്ടുകള്‍' എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന കള്ളവോട്ടുകള്‍ പെരുകുമെന്നും അവര്‍ ആരോപിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്‌.
ബി.ജെ.പി.യുടെ സംസ്ഥാന കമ്മിറ്റിയംഗവും മുന്‍ മേഖലാപ്രസിഡന്റുമായ പി.പി. കരുണാകരന്‍ മാസ്റ്ററാണ്‌ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ഥി. ശരാശരി നാല്‌പതിനായിരത്തിലേറെ വോട്ട്‌ ബി.ജെ.പി.ക്ക്‌ മണ്ഡലത്തിലുണ്ട്‌. കഴിഞ്ഞ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിലെ സമ്പാദ്യം 47,213 വോട്ടാണ്‌. അത്‌ അരലക്ഷമെങ്കിലുമാക്കി സമാഹരിക്കുക എന്നതാണ്‌ ബി.ജെ.പി. ലക്ഷ്യം.
കടുത്ത രാഷ്ട്രീയം തന്നെയാവും കണ്ണൂരിലെ പ്രചാരണായുധം എന്നതാണ്‌ ഇത്തവണത്തെ മറ്റൊരു സവിശേഷത. പത്തുവര്‍ഷം മണ്ഡലത്തെ പ്രതിനിധാനം ചെയ്‌ത പാര്‍ട്ടി എം.പി.യുടെ അപദാനങ്ങള്‍ വാഴ്‌ത്താന്‍ സി.പി.എമ്മിനു കഴിയില്ല. ആ എം.പി.യുടെ പോരായ്‌മകളെ വിമര്‍ശിക്കാന്‍ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്സിനും പറ്റില്ല. കേരളത്തില്‍ ഒരിടത്തും ഈയൊരു അവസ്ഥ ഒരു മുന്നണിക്കും ഉണ്ടാവാനിടയില്ല. യു.പി.എ. സര്‍ക്കാറിനെ പിന്തുണയ്‌ക്കാനാവശ്യപ്പെട്ട്‌ സുര്‍ജിത്തും ജ്യോതിബസുവുമാണ്‌ തന്നെ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്സാക്കിയതെന്ന്‌ അബ്ദുള്ളക്കുട്ടി വിളിച്ചുപറയുമ്പോള്‍ യു.ഡി.എഫ്‌. ക്യാമ്പില്‍ ആവേശമാണ്‌. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ ഇടതുകക്ഷികള്‍ പിന്തുണ പിന്‍വലിച്ചതിനുശേഷം യു.പി.എ. സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ നടത്തിയ 'ജനവിരുദ്ധ നീക്കങ്ങള്‍' തുറന്നുകാണിക്കുക എന്നതാണ്‌ ഇടതുമുന്നണിയുടെ പ്രധാന പ്രചാരണതന്ത്രം.
പ്രചാരണരംഗത്ത്‌ കെ.കെ.രാഗേഷ്‌ ഏറെ മുന്നിലാണ്‌. എസ്‌.എഫ്‌.ഐ-ഡി.വൈ.എഫ്‌.ഐ. പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ അവരുടേതായ രീതിയിലും പ്രചാരണപ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളുമായി മുന്നോട്ടുപോകുന്നുണ്ട്‌. അതിനെ നേരിടാന്‍ കെ. സുധാകരനും ഏറെ ഓടേണ്ടിവരും.
